What Are Mysterious Energy Zones?

Mysterious Energy zone in Crimson Desert — puzzle area and rewards
Mysterious Energy spots are puzzle-led areas that can unlock fast travel, Abyss Cressets, and progression rewards.

They are special interactive spots while exploring. Most need a puzzle or task before they activate. Some unlock fast travel (Abyss Nexus); others give an Abyss Cresset, which can grant an Abyss Artifact and a skill point. Rewards tie directly into character progression. For map icons, Guiding Light, and how to teleport from unlocked points, see the fast travel guide.

Howling Hill (Greymanes Camp)

Howling Hill is the Greymanes camp south of Hernand City on a cliff. You reach it after Chapter 3. Finish both quests below before either Howling Hill zone works.

Required quests:

  • Sealed in Stone
  • Scholastone

Zone 1: Fast travel (Abyss Nexus)

The first zone uses a stone platform with a circular indent. The Abyss Teleporter Disk is missing, so the Abyss Nexus stays locked until you retrieve it. After the required quests, go to Karin Quarry for the disk, return to Howling Hill, and insert it into the platform to activate fast travel. After it turns blue on the map, you can teleport like any other Nexus — details in the Abyss Nexus guide.

Zone 1 steps:

  1. Complete Sealed in Stone and Scholastone.
  2. Travel to Karin Quarry and obtain the Abyss Teleporter Disk.
  3. Return to Howling Hill and insert the disk into the stone platform.
  4. The Abyss Nexus fast travel point activates.

Zone 2: Dragon Stone Chamber

Enter the chasm directly south of the Howling Hill camp. Inside is the Dragon Stone Chamber. Align the stone tablets correctly so a passage opens, then activate an Abyss Cresset.

Zone 2 steps:

  1. Go to the chasm south of Howling Hill Greymanes camp.
  2. Enter the Dragon Stone Chamber.
  3. Align the stone tablets correctly.
  4. Activate the Abyss Cresset for your reward.

Duskwood Hill Ruins (Northern Witchwoods)

Duskwood Hill Ruins Mysterious Energy — pillar puzzle in northern Witchwoods, Crimson Desert
Duskwood Hill Ruins: burn the vines, then use the stab-dial to align all five pillars to the fixed left pillar.

The Duskwood Hill Ruins puzzle sits in the northern Witchwoods and is one of the tougher Mysterious Energy trials. Vines hide the mechanism at first. Burn them with nearby fires or Blinding Flash before you work the puzzle.

Goal: align all five pillars to the same height. The left-most pillar is fixed and cannot move, so it is your height reference.

To use the dial, perform a stab attack with your sword to create a handle on the dial, then turn it to raise or lower pillars.

Stab attack controls

  • PC: Shift + Right-click
  • Controller: RB + Triangle/Y

Duskwood Hill Ruins steps:

  1. Travel to the northern Witchwoods and find Duskwood Hill Ruins.
  2. Burn vines with fires or Blinding Flash.
  3. Use the fixed left pillar as your height reference.
  4. Stab attack (Shift + Right-click on PC, or RB + Triangle/Y on controller) to create the dial handle.
  5. Use the dial until all five pillars match the left pillar height.
  6. Complete the puzzle to receive the Abyss Cresset.

Reward: Abyss Cresset granting an Abyss Artifact and a skill point.

Tips and Things to Know

  • You cannot access Howling Hill zones until Chapter 3 is complete.
  • Sealed in Stone and Scholastone must both be finished before Howling Hill zones become solvable.
  • The Abyss Teleporter Disk comes from Karin Quarry, not the camp, so do not search only at Howling Hill for it.
  • At Duskwood, clear vines first or the mechanism stays hidden.
  • If nothing responds at the Duskwood dial, you likely still need the stab attack to spawn the handle.
  • Abyss Artifacts feed character progression, so these zones are worth doing.

FAQ: Mysterious Energy Near Hernand by the Saddlery

If you see a Mysterious Energy marker above Hernand near the Saddlery and feel lost, the closest documented zone is often Howling Hill, south of Hernand on a cliff. That path needs Sealed in Stone and Scholastone, then the Abyss Teleporter Disk from Karin Quarry. If the zone will not activate, confirm Chapter 3 access and both quests complete. Once the Nexus is active, use the fast travel guide to teleport from the map.
